What do you think about artists who charge for features? Do you charge for features? If so, why and how much? If not, why not? Would you pay someone for a feature? If so, how much?

I think charging for features is something you have to earn to be able to do.  When buying a feature you have to ask yourself, am i going to get this money back?  Is this feature going to bring in a new set of fans?  A company wouldn't buy a product that they couldn't sell,  so it's all about the ability for the feature to be resold.  If an unknown artist is trying to sell features they should probably only ask for enough to cover studio time, if anything.  Once you're established as an indie artist, features can become one of your highest sources of income
so what makes a person an "established" indie artist? and how much do you think these "established" folks could reasonably charge for a feature? huh? huh? :)
That is very true to the letter. As an entertainer in the industry, i look at my songs, lyrical content, as a product that is of quality, and if i can keep up with the current trends. New artist must remember every action that they take is a reflection of there "product" there will always be cases where charging for a feature is everyday bussiness, but if there is no charge what would be the benefit of a collaboration, such as promo ect. Remember nothing in this industry is free treat your product and your bussiness professionally and others will view it the same way!

personally if dey from da city or surrounding areas n they in the same position you in, still tryna git publicity then i think not, but if da artist is doing his thang an he/she got a good following, national exposure den yea u should

good point. but how much do u charge?

whats up hollyhood my opinion is that theres nothing wrong with charging an artist to be featured as long as its good promotion for that artist and the price is reasonable.and i think that if an artist is charged to perform then he or she shouldnt have to pay at the door that is so lame to the artist or promoter who is doing this. now if an artist is hot and hes bringing mad people then that artist shouldnt be charged at all becuz the promoter is gonna make his money back just from the fans coming to support that artist. thats how i feel k.o.g and i been doing this movement since 96 and for the people who dont no what kog means it means king of gohgettaz cuz aint to many people got a resume like me i,m out now promote this.kog

I THINK EVERYTHING HAS A PRICE 0- I AM AN ARTIST AND I AM A PROMOTER AS WELL - FOR YEARS I SHOWED LOVED AND DID THINGS FOR FREE - I RAPPED FOR FREE - I THREW SHOWS AND ARTIST DIDNT HAVE TO PAY - AS AN ARTIST - IM NOT SURE I WOULD CHARGE TO BE ON A TRACT THAT SOMEONE IS SERIOUS ABOUT AND WE WILL THE TRACK TOGETHER -AS A PROMOTER - I HAVE THROW SHOWS - SENT THE ARTIST PROMO MATERIAL - MADE COMMERCIAL ETC (ALL OF WHICH COST MONEY)- ALL FOR THE ARTIST NOT TO EVEN PROMOTE THE SHOW - SO NOW YES I CHARGE - BUT I DO NOT CHARGE ARTIST JUST TO PLAY - ANY SHOW THAT I THROW HAS A SPECIAL FEATURE THAT MAKE THE SHOW STAND OUT - NOW IF THOSE ARTIST DO NOT THINK THAT FEATURE IS IMPORTANT TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF THEIR CRAFT - IN THIS CASE SHOWCASING THEIR ON STAGE ABILITY - DEN DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DO ANY OF MY SHOW - PEOPLE MUST REMEMBER WHY THEY DO MUSIC - IF ITS FOR FUN - DEN DO IT FOR THAT AND DO NOT EXPECT ANYONE TO GIVE U ANYTHING - IF U ARE MAKING THIS A CAREER - THEN YOU MUST EXPECT TO PAY SOMETHING - NOTHING IS FREE - JUST BE SURE UR PAYING FOR SOMETHING OF QUALITY- THIS IS A BUSINESS. PERIOD

it all depends on the artist,if you got a nice fan base (5k+) and your featuring on someone track such as my self (1k-) then i would accept to pay something. and the higher the fan base and promation goes then the higher the cost would go. but we both have a nice fan base or pretty much none at all then it should just be a straight trade off with equal loss and gain. there should only be a charge if the only thing your getting out of it is the payment you receive.
