HH: Tell us where you're from and how you chose your artist name.
G: I'm from Durham, NC via Pittsburgh, PA. How I chose my name.....well, My mom chose my name lol! it is Germôna (jer-mah-nuh). It's arabic and it means infinite, continuous; Everlasting.
HH: Describe your music and what makes it different from other singers.
G: My music, in my opinion, is versatile and different. I love trying new and innovative things when it comes to my voice and the sound behind it. I also have an old school 90s R&B type of sound that's just natural to me and I think when you mix all of those elements (the right way) you get a pretty dope product. As far as being different from other artists, I would have to say I differ simply because I love to experiment with music, I understand that I have to take my time with it and I want to become more than just a "singer".
HH: If you had to compare yourself with an "industry" singer, who would you say your style is most reflective of and why?
G: That's a good one. As far as vocal ability, I wouldn't compare myself to anyone. I have my own distinctive type of voice, from my ad-libs to my runs. I put my own little twang on it. When it comes to appearance/style I am EXTREMELY different and depending what side of the bed I woke up on my style may reflect my attitude for that day. Although I love edginess as well as simplicity.
HH: You not only studied music, but also drama and dance. Which of those crafts are you most passionate about?
G: They both have a hand in what I do musically, if I had to put them in an order it would be: Music, Dance, then Drama. I grew up doing all of these things but singing was always what I was most passionate about.
HH: What local artists do you look forward to working with? Are you open to working with artists from other genres?
G: I really don't have any desires to work with any local artists at this point. There are a few producers here and there who I think are pretty dope but as far as rappers/singers, no one really comes to mind...oh wait! except Melody Joy, she's a beast. I am certainly open to working with artists in other genres; right now I am working on a new EP and I am writing a song called "Fly Away" with a guy out of Australia named Michael Cunningham.
HH: You are the founder of an organization called Opus Magnum Foundation for the Performing and Visual Arts. Tell us the purpose of that organization and what prompted you to create it in the first place.
G: The purpose of the foundation is to provide support for schools and communities who cannot afford art programs, provide after-school programs, and who aren't able to give children and young adults positive outlets due to monetary reasons. I wanted to create this program because I have seen both worlds. A place where things are provided with no problem and a place where things come a little harder. I also wanted to create an outlet where I could start the process of getting young adults off the streets.
HH: Your current single "Things That Lovers Do" is being played in a number of outlets. Where can we expect to hear it?
G: MMS (The Mixtape Volume 2 Fresh Meat), Dj Ransom Dollars (Birthday Sex Volume 1), Dj ATL (Sound Of Pleasure Volume 5)
There is a radio station out in L.A. called HomeGrownRadio giving it some play. Also hear in NC, it gets radio spins in Charlotte at 107.9 & Durham at K97.5 (#919Radio) . it will be getting played more on a few more radio stations before the release of my next EP.
HH: Are you working on any projects/have any upcoming shows? What can we expect to see from you in the next 6 months or so?
G: I currently am preparing for two tours. One of the tours are called AYD (Achieve Your Dream) Tour. That tour starts Feb. 18th, in addition to me performing on the tour my company has also partnered with the people who run the tour. The other tour is called thd URock tour which starts on May 19th and I will be hopping on certain dates of that tour and performing as well. In the next six months you will see a new album, more deals with Opus Magnum and other companies, a lot of hard work, and success through His blessings.
HH: What is the biggest challenge you've faced in being a singer and how have you, or do you expect to overcome it?
G: My biggest challenge is my eagerness to be perfect at all times. I don't believe I will ever shake it, which is fine with me, but I guess I could ease up a little lol!
HH: In your opinion, what does it mean to be "Proud To Be Local?"
G: To me being proud to be local is being blessed, having success, achieving surmountable goals but not forgetting where YOUR struggle began. Having love for your home no matter what you went through because those lessons made you a better person.
HH: Go ahead & give ya shout outs!
G: My brother James, I love you. My cousin Alysha, *Muah.* My grandma Laura, I love you. My brother Daquan, love you. My brother Renaldo, love you. Second mother Sonya, Thank you, love you. MY BEST FRIEND LATISHA, I LOVE YOU!!!
